Omnibus by Anders Zorn

'Omnibus' by Anders Zorn

The lose brushwork reveals the exact amount of information the eye requires to process the image. If you look closer at the image, it reveals how few brushstrokes were needed for this complex image to take form. There are very few brushstrokes used to create the woman's ear and yet its depiction is realistic and accurate. There are images that perhaps Zorn would define as more complete, brilliant realistic images. For example 'Self Portrait in Red' but that image reveals what many other artists could also capture. 'Omnibus' reveals a greater level of skill because its shows the confidence within the original brushstrokes. This man didn't just paint, he found it easy.
