Twittering Machine

'Twittering Machine' by Jina Wallwork

This is my version of 'Twittering Machine' by Paul Klee. It was painted during a time when I was trying to find my voice. It is reflective of the process of learning how to express yourself. The original piece by Paul Klee features mechanical birds that are controlled by a hand crank. They are twittering machines with no source to their expression other responding to the actions of others. In my piece the mechanical birds became flowers on a landscape, and beneath the soil is a glimpse of the giant heart that fuels their growth. Speaking is easy because you can talk and reveal very little. To express the core of your being is more difficult. To say what you really think and feel is a hard task. An important aspect of expression is the act of revealing your own truth. Don't create mechanical responses but reveal yourself in the words that you choose.
