The First Step by Peter Howson

The first Step is a good example, it is a haunting image about rehab. A lot of his work is very dark but occasionally a splash of color creates light within the image. I often see it as a small piece of optimism breaking through a bleak outlook. His technical skill and style is wonderful. His work often appears like a series of nightmares. I believe that the art world benefits from having a range of different perspectives. If we do not accept nightmares, then we cannot fully accept dreams. The video below shows Peter Howson painting Dawn French. The final piece is excellent. In theme, it is one of his lighter works.
